Information for Faculty, Staff, and Advisors
The Counseling Center is a place for students who recognize that they have concerns, behaviors, or problems that interfere with academic progress. We are located on the Third Floor of the Schuster Center. The phone number is 706-507-8740.
The Counseling Center is staffed by professionally trained psychologists and counselors. Graduate counseling students may provide services under the supervision of licensed staff. Workshops and presentations are conducted throughout the year. Personal and career counseling are offered individually and in groups. Staff help students select majors and develop career plans through career counseling.

The Counseling Center has a referral form (PDF) that staff and faculty can use as a vehicle to document the behavior of students who are a subject of concern and refer them for counseling. Faculty and staff who refer students to The Counseling Center should be aware that, for confidentiality reasons, The Counseling Center cannot disclose information as to whether the student referred is or is not attending sessions.
PROCEDURE FOR REFERRING A STUDENT:
1. Call the Counseling Center at 706-507-8740 and inform Center staff.
2. OR Complete the referral form (Word) found on the Center's website -- click to edit and print. Send the form via FAX to 706-507-8753, or, you may bring it to the Center, 3rd Floor Schuster Building. It will be necessary for you to give our staff members the student's name and phone number.

With the information you provide, the Center will contact you to assess the quality of service given.
Career counseling is a service the Center offers that usually takes three sessions before a student develops a career plan in which they have confidence. We will help students:
- Choose a major.
- Develop their own career plan.
- Learn more about themselves -- values and interests.
- Learn about the "world of work," including various careers.
- Understand their career interest test results.
Students who request testing to seek academic accommodations must pay a fee to cover the cost of the test battery.
Emergencies are handled on a walk-in basis. Otherwise, students should call or come by to request an appointment time.
Students are entitled to confidential counseling services. Others may not make appointments for students.
The student may choose to authorize release of information by signing the appropriate form in the Counseling Center. Signing this form "waives" confidentiality.
